Danny Rose and Steven Fletcher
Boy is it quiet, so quiet that even the most tenuous of links seem worthy of publicity to some. That was the case yesterday with Steven Fletcher, the Wolves striker who got Villa fans discussing aplenty on the ol’ t’internet.
It appears that the ‘link’, if you can even call it that, came from a guy who posts on a Sunderland forum and claimed he heard it on that stellar source for sports news and information, Capital FM. Quite how this managed to run and run staggers me, but as mentioned it is quiet and it provides something to talk about. Now I love my transfer gossip, but this was even a stretch for me.
It appears as nothing imminent is happening (though it probably will after I’ve just ridiculed the link!), but it did cause a bit of debate amongst Villa fans. He was linked the other week, and I wrote then that I do like the player, and think he’s the type of player we need. Do I think £12 or so million is too much for a player like Fletcher? Well yes, but it’s not my money and if Lambert feels he’s the type of player we need I’d be happy to go along with that.
He’s certainly capable of getting 15 or so goals a season, his wages wouldn’t be astronomical and he can link play well. For me though, I think the money could be spent better elsewhere, and despite Fletcher proving he can play in the Premiership, surely there are better options out there?
Wolves signed him for £7 or so million, he’s improved so £12 million doesn’t look too bad in the grand scheme of things. Still it looks unlikely, with Sunderland being mentioned as the favourites. If he does indeed come though, then apologies to that Mackem’s fan on the forum, and of course to Capital FM, I should never have doubted you.
Interestingly Fletcher has just tweeted this, so maybe he will be off sooner rather than later:
‘Just handed in a transfer request just to let the fans know where I am at right now…. #headsgone’
Onto speculation that has actually appeared on a website and that was written by a journalist, we have another link to Danny Rose from Tottenham. This appeared in the Mail, and here are a few quotes from the piece:
‘Aston Villa remain keen on signing winger Danny Rose.
Tottenham want the 22-year-old to out on loan to a Premier League side after failing to establish himself at White Hart Lane.
New Villa boss Paul Lambert is keen to bring in Rose on a season-long loan deal as cover on the left side.’
Now I’ve said before that I don’t mind loans, but I’m not convinced on Danny Rose at all. Tottenham fans seem unsure as well, with some thinking he could make it with a run of games, others not so sure. We do need cover on the left side, but if we’re to bring someone in who can play there, I’d rather them be of the talent to start every game, and I’m not sure Rose is at the moment.
Still our squad is small, he has genuine pace which we’re certainly lacking and could make a decent impact off the bench. Again we’ll see how it goes, and hopefully we’ll have more concrete news soon.
UTV.

I do rate Fletcher but I’m with you when you say it could be better spent elsewhere. We do need another striker though, I think Ivan Klasnic would be a good buy, transfer fee and wages would be peanuts!
I’m happy were not going in for Rose as a permanent deal but as it’s seems to be a season long-loan, I’m more than happy with and injection of pace in the side, which we do lack.
Klasnic be a good shout mate, always thought he looked a quality kind of player.
Yep loan suits me as well, as mentioned we do need cover, and we’re sorely lacking pace in the side these days.
