Feyenoord website reporting Vlaar deal done
It’s turned out to be a bit of a busy day. First came the Lerner news, and now we’re hearing that previous link Ron Vlaar is on the verge of completing his move to the Villa.
I’ve checked the Feyenoord website and after a while (guess plenty were doing the same!) came across the following article. Here is the google translation of the key bits:

So looking like it’s getting close to being confirmed, and I’m delighted at the news. We need a new central defender, and with the signings of Lowton and potentially Cresswell, we could see a whole new back four at the Villa from last year, with Vlaar potentially partnering Ciaran Clark in the middle.
Just adding a bit more, and I’m guessing that the ‘limited compensation in his contract had stood’ basically equals a minimum fee clause, with numerous reports suggest around £3 million. If that proves to be the case, then that is a very good deal on our part.
Also saw this line further down the report:
“The conduct of Aston Villa has recently caused much unrest. In addition, the time in view of our next match is not favorable. In that respect we have preferred that this transfer was a week earlier came around.”
There does seem to have been a bit of aggro, but as we mentioned previously, if the talk of a minimum fee was correct, then there was little Feyenoord could do were we to come in with a bid that matched the amount. I understand their annoyance, but it was quite clear we’ve been in America, so I don’t understand how they can complain that much, I’m sure it was communicated as such.
Anyway it looks like the deal has been agreed, and hopefully soon it’s confirmed by all parties.
Update: The official site have now confirmed it, and subject to a medical Vlaar should be a Villa player next week!

It be great mate, defence was the weak link, and Lambert is targeting it big time. Encouraging stuff!
Defence was weak link…..don’t agree with that , how many goals did we score?? How many shots? We need creativity big time. Collins I think is a good defender Clarke along side him. Dunne maybe times up. But I’d like not to sign vlaar and go with a winger as albrighton is a 1 trick pony and not good enough
I should probably have elaborated. Granted we didn’t score many goals, but I look at the players we have, and have brought in, and I think we can score goals.
When I look at the main defence from last year (Hutton, Collins, Dunne, Warnock), I view that as the weakest part of our squad, and I like what Lambert has done so far.
Agree we need a winger, and maybe another striker and left back (not asking much!).

All good teams start with building a solid defence, last year was awful so im pleased to see they way Paul Lambert is heading, agree with the posts above about our weak link AND creativity, major overhaul required on limited funds if you look at what deals have been done so far. I still want a Marquee signing and would be happy with that being Carroll. I keep hearing Scott Sinclair as a possible signing as well, im ok with this.Good times ahead if they all come off! UTV.
