Hutton. Stoke. Perfection.

If ever a player and a club seemed perfect for each other, then Alan Hutton and Stoke would have to be near the top of any list made on the subject. We’d heard whispers for a while, and now the Daily Mail have released a story tonight saying that a move, could indeed happen.

“Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is in talks over a move to Stoke City.

The Scotland international is being moved out of Villa after Paul Lambert spent £3million on Matthew Lowton.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis used a number of players to cover the right-back spot at the Britannia Stadium last season with Robert Huth and Jonathan Woodgate deployed out of position.

Villa though are facing another significant loss on the player with the fee expected to reach no more than £2m.”

They talk about a significant loss, and a fee of £2 million would be around half of what we paid for him a season or so ago, but I don’t think you’d have too many Villans complaining. In one of my considerable lacks of judgement, I actually thought Hutton could turn out to be a good signing for us. Gonna put it out there that I was pretty off the mark on that one.

He’s one of the more unpopular players we’ve had at Villa for a considerable time, and after being left out of the squad that travelled to the US, the writing appeared on the wall.

Stoke are a pretty physical team it’s fair to say, so if the move does go through, then you’d imagine Hutton would fit right in. Not sure many attacking players are going to enjoy games against the Potters come next season. Fair play to the side, and I’m not here to have a go because it clearly does a job, plus they always annoyingly tend to do alright against us.

With the signing of Lowton, and the emergence of Lichaj last season, there just isn’t much room for him in the squad. A couple of million plus his wages off the book will do the majority of us just fine, and another reminder of last years horrible season will be on his way.

Whether the Stoke move goes through or not, either way it appears that Hutton’s time as a Villa player is almost over. Enjoy it folks.
