Is Ashley Westwood the latest target?

Man o man it’s been a busy day. Of sorts. I mean nothing concrete has really happened yet, bar the Bowery deal that by all accounts was a done deal last night. Last year when we knew nothing was really happening was frustrating enough, this year with 1034 players linked it is equally annoying.

There has been lots of talk regarding various players today, with Benteke still looking like it has the most amount of substance to it. Still expecting it to get done judging by what others have said, and Crewe’s Ashley Westwood is the latest player linked. There was talk that Lambert had a back-up in mind should the deal for Stephens at Charlton didn’t go through, and maybe that is what is happening here?

Sky’s Pete Colley has tweeted the following, and it seems to be gathering pace:

‘Villa in talks with Crewe over midfielder Ashley Westwood…… Presumably Dale Stevens deal going cold!’

As for the player himself he’s a pretty highly rated 22 year old midfielder, who has been linked with a number of other Premiership sides in the past. He’s already captain of Crewe which I suppose has to be a good sign, and as talked about previously I’m happy to bring in as many bodies as we can to Villa Park.

I’m not quite sure why so many Villa fans seem to be up in arms at how we’re doing business. If you look at what Lambert has done previously he often targets lower league players who have the desire and attitude to want to do well. It worked wonders at Norwich, which is the reason he’s now our manager. We clearly have a budget, and if we’re being honest, many of us have probably rarely seen a lot of these players in action.
