Looks like it’s all over for Makoun at Villa
If there was a twilight-esque thing going on at Villa, I’d certainly be in team Makoun. I want him to do well here, I want him to be a success and I want us fans to see more of the ability he clearly has. Sadly, it looks like the Villa career of Jean Makoun, awesome jumpers and all, is coming to an end.
It began with the news from the fans forum earlier on this evening, that Paul Lambert essentially has no idea where Makoun is. Never a good situation really. We’ve heard the stories about failed English tests and the like, but just days before the start of the new season, and no-one really knowing his whereabouts, it looks like his time is up.
The Mirror have now linked the player with Rennes, and providing we can find him, he may well be off before the end of the transfer window.
“Aston Villa’s forgotten man Jean Makoun is signing for French side Rennes in a bargain deal – to give Paul Lambert’s transfer kitty a boost.
Makou joined in a big-money move during Gerard Houllier’s time as manager, but the Cameroon international had a torrid time in the Midlands and can now leave to get his wages off the payroll.
Rennes are taking the 29-year-old as a possible replacement for Yann M’Vila, who has been linked with a handful of clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham.”
There are those of us who will be annoyed, and those who probably quite rightly at this point think it’s time to cut our losses. A lot of us wanted to see Lambert maybe try and get the best out of him, and it would have been interesting if he did have a full preseason under the new manager. Still it’s not to be, and perhaps we’ll never know just how he might have done.
At this point, it’s probably best to get what we can on him, and while I hate seeing us constantly lose money on players brought in, it’s got to be better than having an AWOL player. We need bodies, with centre midfield being a place of need in my opinion, so he would have been a nice option. Still hopefully we can get some additional funds for the transfer kitty, buy a dominant defensive midfielder and be in arguably better shape.
Guessing the action will pick up soon.

Aston Villa News 24/7
It’s a shame to see him go, looked like a tidy player, very good passer of the ball! How much did we sign him for and how much do you reckon we’ll get for him??
Yeah it is a bit of a shame mate, he looked like he might be able to contribute. I think we brought him for around £6 million, be lucky to get £2-3 million now I reckon. It’s the Villa way to waste money though!
At least we’ll recuperate a bit of it back.. he wont be another Habib Beye on 40-odd-k a month, seeing out his contract in the reserves! Another example of our poor transfer policy..
So excited for this season though, last year I had a season ticket and for the first time ever I missed a game that I was able to attend! Sounds daft but watching them was putting me in a really poor mood, I was leaving the stadium angry at the manager for the tactics, the fans for picking on individuals like Warnock & N’Zogbia (they aren’t going to get any better/confident if they have 30,000 people WAITING for them to mess up), and pretty much every idiot on the phone-in-radio-stations who were smug because they was right to stay away with ‘that bluenose idiot is in charge’.
Now I find myself checking avfc.co.uk, coming on this site for your excellent, unbiased views, and also refreshing skysports.com actually seeing us linked with a few players (for once), I do this EVERY DAY!
I CANNOT WAIT to leave Villa Park with a smile on my face again! I hated winning (not that it happened that often) last season because all it was doing was keeping the clueless Mr Mcleish in charge!
