Positive signs as Lambert begins to address our needs
It’s been a relatively quiet few days on the Villa front, which has been good news for yours truly after my hard drive decided to stop working meaning that the posts haven’t been as frequent as usual.
The laptop has been repaired, and right on cue the transfer links are back, and this time there actually seems to be something more concrete to it all. I’m sure most of you are by now aware that we’ve confirmed our interest in Moroccan midfielder Karim El Ahmadi. Lambert has confirmed our interest, and it looks like the defensive midfielder may well be the first new signing of this new era:
“We’re in talks at this moment. Those talks are ongoing and we hope to reach a positive conclusion with Feyenoord and the player.
“Karim is a player who I feel could definitely improve our squad. He has experience of big club football and also at international level. He can pass the ball well and he could be an important player for us in central midfield. Let’s see how things progress. We’re very hopeful.”
I don’t know anything about the player, but it doesn’t mean that the transfer hasn’t got me excited. Already it seems Lambert is addressing our needs, and for me and a lot of other people, defensive midfielder was certainly one of them. Chris Herd did an excellent job in the position last season, but we could do certainly do with more options in the middle. For me it’s one of the more important positions we need to fill, as I’m quite excited by the attacking options we have at the side.
Looking far ahead and if El Ahmadi does sign, then we could potentially see a new midfield partnership of the Moroccan next to Makoun, with two of Holman, Albrighton and N’Zogbia on the wings, with maybe Ireland and Bent ahead of them. I’m sure we’ll sign a number of other players, and Lambert does like to mix things up with regards to formation and personnel.
Of course we have a number moaning already probably not knowing the first thing about the player. Lambert can sign and target whoever he wants in my opinion, and he signed a number of players at Norwich not particularly well known, but who proved to be extremely effective. There are bargains to be had, and if we are able to add a decent player for £2 or £3 million in a needed position, then that’s a good start to what figures to be a busy summer.

This is a great start. In Lambert we trust!
I put my trust in Lambert. Lets hope he can help in the defensive department. Wee need to get the defence right and at least on more forward. lets hope we can sign at least 2 more players before pre season tour.
iv watch every video available on KEA.he looks like a great player.very confident on the ball, lightning pace, always looking to close down an attack, great tackler.just what villa need.a real positive looking player and one that we will be talking positivly about for a long time to come if we sign him.good choice lambo.
Ironic that el ahmadi plays at the de Kuip stadium the place of Villa’s greatest achievement
I have a really good feeling about this lad, Lambo is going to be a legend , I feel it.

Thoughts?
Well Stu T, I could write a book in response, but to avoid boring the pants off everyone with a long winded reply, I’ll merely say that that line-up suggested by your good self, certainly wouldn’t do it for me.
Albrighton for starters (I’ll take it alphabetically here), nowhere near good enough. We need far better.
Collins? Well I’m somewhat torn. If he is to remain at Brum B6 and play a part in our ‘revival’, then he has to step up to the plate and perform consistently, while abandoning his off field antics.
Herd? I’m unconvinced, as I am about Makoun.
On a positive upbeat note though, I’m happy with the starting roles you see for Shay, Charles, Benty, and Stephen Ireland, and I do agree with your ‘??’ as to an a.n. other at left full back.
win nothing with this team. only ten players
This guy looks a bargain. Lambert knows exactly what he’s doin. We need pace & muscle in that midfield . Keep up the good work lambert & get your army ready for the new season. The sleeping giants need to wake up.
Okay so now for a big bulky striker following replacing Warnock Dunne Collins and Hutton, to be fair Lihaj should start as right back so we should be fine there with cover from Herd!
£21 million for that back 4 by the way!!!! How much will we get for selling them??? Hmmmn!
With this all i have to say is
LAMBERT’S CLARET AND BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!
It all depends if he’s hungry to win trophies.
I live in Holland, for 10 years now, and have regularly watched Feyenoord play.
The guy is a energetic dynamo with an amazing engine, he closes down quickly when not in possession, when in possession he always looks to play the simple ball and then move to make space again.
He was regularly listed in the team of the week for the Erdedivision and constant praise from those who matter, many Feyenoord fans are gutted and amazed he has not been offered a contract.
Fantastic bit of business in my eyes!!!
Thanks for sharing mate. Sounds really encouraging and I’m really quite excited to see him in action. Hope he’s a Villa player sooner rather than later.
From everything in seen of him I believe he’s a hunter someone who hates seeing the opposition hav the ball which is exactly wat we need & supremely confident on the ball but we will need centre halfs better than dunne & Collins for him too b at his best or his ball out to the back 4 will b wasted & hoofed upfield wiv them pair
Thanks for your various imputs folks. The general consensus seems positive, and the more I hear about the player, the more it seems we’ve done a good bit of business (providing it goes through). Good price, and we’re filling an important role.
