That’s a bit harsh Charles

There are some people in football who just do their club absolutely no favours, and Rangers chief executive Charles Green is just one of those. Today, in some ramble about Rangers wanting to join a European super league, he also found time to have a pop at our humble club.

‘How can Manchester United’s revenues be £320million and Aston Villa, who are completely useless, get £250m?

‘It all comes from Sky and it’s not decided by what a club puts in. What Manchester United put into world football is massive, but what they take out of it is a joke and they won’t put up with that for much longer.’

A lot of people dislike modern football, and money certainly has had a massive impact on how the game is shaped these days. Still I don’t think his figures are accurate for one, and secondly, why have a pop at us?! He also had digs at Southampton, Swansea and others, hardly endearing himself to the chairmen of the Premier League.

Granted we’ve had a few tough years, but we’re still one of the leagues bigger clubs, and unlike Rangers curtailed our spending when things were looking a bit dicey. Maybe a super league will come about one day, but for now Rangers certainly have a lot more to worry about. Fair play to their fans, and if they’re getting these home gates in the Scottish third division, then you know you have a loyal bunch. Still their chief executive has had a bit of a mare with today’s comments, and having a go at us is most unwelcome.

At the end of the day I’d rather be ‘completely useless’ and be in our position, than dreaming of a European super league and languishing in the lower reaches of Scottish football.

UTV.
