Today we have a link to a French under 21 International

We all know it gets a bit quiet during the International breaks, so it’s little surprise to see more random links pop up to more random players. After yesterdays to Lewis Holtby, today we have a link to Toulouse striker, Wissam Ben Yedder.

This has appeared in a few places, and here is a little excerpt for your viewing pleasure:

‘Aston Villa are watching Toulouse youngster Wissam Ben Yedder.

The 22 year-old has been capped by France at U21 level and is being watched by Villa this season.

The Villans have been active in France and also maintain a watching brief on Bordeaux striker Yoann Gouffran.’

Looking at the little info out there on the player, it’s fair to say he’s had a good season, scoring 6 times in 8 appearances to date. He’s a small striker at around 5ft 7, but interestingly enough (it’s actually not that interesting) the Who Scored website lists one of his strengths as being ‘Headed attempts’, with the other being finishing….always nice to see in a striker.

Yoann Gouffran has also been mentioned in the article, and we’ve been linked to him many-a-time in the past. Again looking at the bigger picture, and assuming that just this one time, this rumour has a bit of truth to it, I’m still not sure if up front is a priority area for us to strengthen. We have five senior strikers at the club, with the Fonz still out on loan at Blackpool. I could see the benefits of a smaller striker who knows where the goal is, say someone like Jermain Defoe, but signing another man up top would leave plenty of unhappy forwards at the club.

We certainly need to start taking our chances though, and some more goals throughout the whole team would be most welcome.

As per, we’ll see how this one plays out, but personally I’d like to see us strengthen elsewhere.
