Villa linked to much needed defensive midfielder (with video)
Maybe the German publication ‘Kicker’ reads this and other Aston Villa blogs, because after all the recent talk of how we’re in desperate need of a defensive midfielder, we’ve been linked to one!
The link seemed to originate in the aforementioned Kicker, and was picked up by Talksport over here. Here is a little snippet of the article for you:
‘The Denmark international has played eight Bundesliga matches for Stuttgart this season, after making 33 league appearances last term.
Villa have targeted the 27-year-old having suffered a slow start to the campaign, with Lambert’s side currently sitting just one point outside the Premier League relegation zone.
Kvist, who is under contract until June 2016, is valued at around £6million and Italian club Chievo are also eyeing a move, according to German paper Kicker.’
Done a little bit of reading on the player, and by all accounts he’d be a most welcome addition. He’s a 27 year old Danish international, and at over 6ft is a bit of a presence in the middle. The Who Scored website links his attributes as the following, and as you can we’re certainly missing someone like that at the moment:
Blocking the ball – Very Strong
Passing – Strong
Tackling – Strong
Concentration – Strong
Ball interception – Strong.
In addition to this he also has a 7.1 average rating, and a near 90% pass success rate. I was always a massive fan of what Stan brought to the side, and we’ve certainly missed him in the middle since his unfortunate condition came to light. I say it a lot, but in my opinion a defensive central midfielder with a bit of experience should be our number one priority come the January transfer window.
This would allow others to try and improve our attacking woes (though we could do with reinforcements in some areas further up the field as well), and having someone like Kvist, or someone similar could allow players like El Ahmadi, Ireland etc a bit more freedom.
I don’t know how much money we have, but if we’re near the bottom then Randy might free up some additional funds come January. Naturally this is just a rumour, but he’s exactly the type of player we need, so hopefully there is even the teeniest bit of truth in it!
I’ve attached a little highlight package of him in action as well, and he looks very decent (granted that’s what a highlight video should do!). Fast, very good on the ball, can spot a pass and puts himself about. Would not mind this one. UTV.

Aston Villa News 24/7
Talking about our midfield.
Why didn’t Lambert consider a short term contract offer to Thomas Hitzlsperger? Given the fact he loves the Villa and David Moyes rates him high enough to still think he can play and contribute in Everton’s team.
Not to mention we could do with a midfielder with Thomas’s German work ethic.
Would have loved him here last season, this season and in the future if possible (I’m quite the fan haha). We’ve got the full 25 man squad at the moment, but as we keep saying, we’re in desperate need of more experience in the middle. Plus the majority of fans love him which would have boosted the atmosphere. Ah well.
we have the full squad quota 25 which includes No19 which means at the momment we have 24 to call on
I think we could get Kvist and let Delph go, we need wide players to take the place of nzogbia and abrighton.
