Would you want Andy Carroll at Villa?

God bless you Twitter. After things seemed to be winding down for the night the Birmingham Mail’s Mat Kendrick tweeted a few things regarding Paul Lambert refusing to rule out a move for Liverpool’s Andy Carroll. Here are the two tweets on the subject:

Interesting post-match comment from Paul Lambert who refused to rule out a loan move for Andy Carroll. Your thoughts, Villa fans? ‪#avfc‬ ‪#lfc‬

Followed by the following:

Don’t know if the Carroll thing is a goer – wages, rival interest etc – but it was interesting to hear Lambert admit it was a possibility

Previously when looking at our strikers I always thought that the one thing missing was a more physical striker, and Carroll certainly fits the bill from that aspect. He gets a lot of stick, but most of that is due to the fact that he is nowhere near worth the £35 million Liverpool paid for him. He’s a good player, it seems Liverpool are willing to let him go and he fits a need.

The loan thing doesn’t bother me really. If we can get a chance to use a good player for a year and it benefits the team then there is little to complain about. You could see him working well with Bent, Gabby and Weimann, and as we saw at Norwich previously, Lambert likes to use, and can also get a lot of success out of a big man up top (namely Holt and Morison).

We could perhaps do with another winger if he were to come in (Phillips from Blackpool has again been linked) and maybe just maybe we might score from a corner with someone like Carroll at the club!

Kendrick does talk about rivals competing, and maybe others could offer more with regards to paying his wages but hopefully we’re more of an attractive option this year.

Would you like him at Villa? He does seem to split opinion but I do think the positives outweigh the negatives. Your thoughts?

UTV.

Update: The following quotes from Lambert have since surfaced on the ESPN website:

“If we can get him that’d be great!”

“I’ve heard people are linked with him. That doesn’t surprise me.”
